Evelyn Birkemeyer, age 85, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on February 2, 2021 at Prairie Senior Cottages in New Ulm, MN.

Public visitation will be on Sunday, February 7, 2021 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye Chapel.

Private family services will be held at the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye Chapel, on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at 1:00 pm.

The clergy will be Rev. Dr. Gerhardt Miller. Interment will be at the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye at a later date.

Evelyn M. Birkemeyer was born in Redwood Falls, MN on April 7, 1935 to Harold F. and Lillian (Hammond) Jones. She attended Sleepy Eye Public School.

Evelyn married William Birkemeyer on August 5, 1954 at the Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye. She followed Bill's Air Force career until 1971 when he retired. They spent a good share of their military life in Oregon. The couple moved back to Sleepy Eye in 1971. Evelyn babysat all of her life for many, many children. She loved visiting with family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Steve (Julie) Birkemeyer of Cloquet, MN, Vicky (James) Hacker of Sleepy Eye, Timothy (Kelly) Birkemeyer of Lamberton; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Helen Kimmel of Springfield, Fred (Marie) Jones of Swansea, IL, Eddie Jones of Rochester, Willie (Sharon) Jones of Rochester and Mary Helin of Minneapolis.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William in 2008; five brothers and four sisters.
