Lila Laverna Black, age 84, of Gibbon, MN died peacefully on Monday, March 29, 2021, at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato.

Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, April 9, 2021, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. Burial will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Gibbon. Visitation will be from 9-11 am on Friday at the church in Gibbon.

Social distancing must be practiced at all times, and all guests in attendance at the visitation and funeral service must wear a mask.

Lila Laverna Kuester was born April 18, 1936, in Wellington Township-Renville County to Robert and Orpha (Borth) Kuester. Shew as baptized on May 3, 1936, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church by E.G. Fritz, and was later confirmed into the Christian faith on April 2, 1950, by G. F. Zimmerman at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Her confirmation verse was Matthew: 28-20: Lo I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.

Lila was united in marriage to Clifford Robert Black on June 22, 1957, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township by G. F. Zimmerman. This union blessed the couple with three sons whom together they raised on the family farm in Moltke Township. Lila joined the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon where she taught as a Sunday school teacher and was secretary of the local AAL Branch for many years. Besides her work on the farm, Lila also worked at Hands in Winthrop, May Wes Manufacturing in Gibbon, Eckert Farm Supply, and HTI in Hutchinson.

Lila lived to help her children and grandchildren as they were the most important beings in her life. She leaves one important message to her family, “A family that prays together, stays together.” Blessed be her memory.

Lila is survived by her sons, Bruce Black of Gibbon, Gary (Teresa) Black of Estilline, SD; her grandchildren, Brittany (Tyler) Johnson of Spicer, Devin Black of Estilline, SD, Kendra (Austin) Richard of Hayti, SD; her godchildren, Linda Tallman, Rachel Melberg, Karen Goblrisch, Joel Black, Ross Carlson, Kay Kelement, and Shirley Black.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Orpha Kuester; her husband, Clifford Black in 2012; her son, Glen Black in 2009; her sister and brother-in-law, LaVella and Oren Deterling; her nephew, Brian Deterling; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur and Ethel Black; and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Adeline Black.
