Marilyn Black, age 85, of Fairfax, MN passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Southview Living Center in Gibbon, MN.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Cairo Township, Renville County, MN. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Pastor Scott Muske will officiate.

Marilyn Ruth Black was born on July 23, 1934, in Gibbon. She was the daughter of Fredrick and Margaret (Wandersee) Pockrandt. She was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth. She received her education in Gibbon and was a graduate of the Gibbon High School.

On October 22, 1952, Marilyn was united in marriage to Arden Black at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. After their marriage, they farmed together in Cairo Township. They were blessed with five children. She was a loving mother, homemaker and helped on the farm. Marilyn and Arden shared 58 years of marriage when Arden passed away on August 20, 2011.

Marilyn was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairfax and a member of the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting, and traveling. She cherished the time she spent with her children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

When she needed assistance with her care, Marilyn became a resident of Southview Living Center in Gibbon.

Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Liz Kiecker and her significant other Gregg Guggemos of Winsted, Sue Schweiss and her husband Myron of Fairfax; sons, LaMar Black and his wife Sue of Fairfax, and Joel Black and his wife Shari of Gibbon; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elvira Landgraff and her husband Virgil of Minneapolis, MN, Genny Schmidt and her husband Bob of Hutchinson, MN, Jeanette Compart of Nicollet, MN; brother, Robert “Bob” Pockrandt and his wife Barbara of FL; sister-in-law, Lily Pockrandt of IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Margaret Pockrandt; husband, Arden Black; daughter, Valorie Black; son-in-law, Steven Kiecker; siblings, Raymond Pockrandt, Marvin (Elaine) Pockrandt, Ellsworth (Jean) Pockrandt, Phyllis Novak, Rosie (Elmer) Ehnes; and brother-in-law, Gerald Compart.
