PHYLLIS MAE IVERSON

Phyllis Mae Iverson

July 5, 1930-January 31, 2021

Phyllis Mae (Paulson) Iverson, 90, of Fairfax, MN passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at Southview Living Center in Gibbon, MN.

Funeral service will be live streamed on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 11 a.m. with a public celebration of life held at a later date. Interment will be at Fort Ridgely.

Phyllis was born in South Saint Paul, MN, on July 5, 1930, to Guida (Braaten) and Arnold Paulson. She grew up in St. Paul and was working as a researcher at the City Directory there when she met Corwin (Corky) Iverson, who was home on furlough from France during the Korean War. They were married September 17, 1954, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Paul and made their home NW of Fairfax.

Phyllis enjoyed baking, gardening, reading, bowling, playing cards, watching TV dancing/variety shows, and supporting her children and grandchildren in everything they did. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and active in the Ladies Aid, often sewing quilts for underprivileged children overseas. She delivered Meals on Wheels and enjoyed assisting community members with rides to church or out-of-town appointments. Before retiring, she worked at ADC, Sue’s Café and Fairfax Corner Drug Store. She was an active member of both the Legion and VFW Auxiliary organizations. She didn’t love traveling, but often made an exception when St. Louis or the Carolinas were suggested so she could visit her children and grandchildren. She loved to dance, and at weddings would teach anyone she could how to Lindy.

She is survived by her children, Susan (Darwin) Buerkle of Gibbon; Peggy (Randy) Wittenberg of Eden Prairie; John (Joanne) Iverson of Charleston, SC; and Paul Iverson of Eagan, as well as ten grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; her brother, Arlin Paulson of White Bear Lake; foster sister-in-law Germaine Kuglin of Minneapolis and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband; parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ferdinand and Louise (Bossenecker) Iverson; sister, Elva (Chuck) Reider; brothers, Glenn (Muriel) Paulson and Leland (Dorothy) Paulson; and sister-in-law, Betty Paulson.

Special thanks to residents and staff at both Countryview and Southview Living Center who entertained and cared for her when we couldn’t safely visit. For that, we’ll be forever grateful.
