The Franklin City Council met for their regular meeting on Monday, January 13, 2020. 

After the minutes and the consent agenda were approved, the group discussed the official designations and annual appointments for the new year.

Presidential Nomination Primary Election March 3, 2020

In 2016 legislation was passed creating a presidential nomination primary. Has the state had a presidential primary before? Yes, in 1916, 1952, 1956 and 1992. This year, after decades as a caucus state, Minnesota will hold its first presidential primary since 1992. The March 3 primary date places the state in the middle of Super Tuesday, when voters from 15 states and territories cast their ballots.

2020 Gibbon Royalty crowned

The 2020 Gibbon Royalty was crowned at the annual Royalty Coronation and Fire Department Recognition event on Sunday evening, January 19. Representing the community of Gibbon as Royals for the year will be Baleigh Peterson (left), daughter of Daryl and Marilee Peterson, and Rylee Sabo (right), daughter of Ryan and Nickie Sabo. Area Parish Group travels to India

Father Bruno, the pastor of the All Saints Area Faith Community (Franklin, Fairfax, Gibbon and Winthrop Catholic parishes) left on Sunday, January 5 with 18 travelers for a tour of India. Those in the tour group are from Fairfax, Gibbon, Winthrop, New Ulm and other local towns. The group will be visiting many areas including the home of Father’s parents. The tour will take two weeks however Fr. Bruno will stay in India for several more days visiting his family and the Benedictine Monastery in India that he resided at before coming to the New Ulm Diocese.

City & Country Tavern under new ownership

If you’ve visited the City & Country Tavern in Morgan in the past month and a half or so, you might have noticed a couple new faces and maybe some other changes as well.

Those new faces belong to Nikole Wollin and Marvin Feldewerd, who paired up to purchase the City & Country Tavern from Tony and Kelly Rahe back in November.
