Summer meals at GFW

GFW Schools will be offering Summer Meals for children 18 and under at no cost. Pick up is at GFW Elem. School, 323 E. 11th St., Gibbon. Families will be given five breakfasts and five meals for each child. Pick up dates are July 9, 16, 23, 30 and Aug. 6, 13, 20. from 10-1. If you have not signed up already, please call or email Beth Walter, GFW Food Service Director, at 507-207-2201 or beth.walter@gfwschools.org so they have count for how many meals to prepare.

GFW School Board hears proposal for changes to Jr./Sr. High principal position

At a special meeting of the GFW School Board held Wednesday, June 24, new Superintendent Jeff Horton presented his proposal for filling the recently vacated Jr./Sr. High School Principal position.

Horton cited the needs of the students and the District’s Statutory Operating Debt as items that were considered as he and current Superintendent Lonnie Siefert discussed the best options for filling the position.

St. Michael’s School in Morgan closes

After 112 years of providing education in the Diocese of New Ulm, St. Michael Catholic School in Morgan has closed its doors for good. Amid declining enrollment and budgetary concerns, the school will not be in operation moving forward into the next academic school year.

GFW School Board approves budget

The GFW School Board held their regular meeting on Monday, June 15 via virtual means.

After the agenda was approved, the board reviewed and approved the Consent Agenda, which included the following hires: 

-Laura Fortwangler, Jr./Sr. High Special Education Teacher;

-Jena Kaufman, Elementary teacher;

Cedar Mountain School Board discusses contingencies for fall

The regular monthly meeting of the Cedar Mountain School Board was held on June 15 in Franklin. Once the agenda was approved Joel Harmoning presented on the district’s insurance policy renewal. There is a new company covering the district’s cyber insurance. Overall there was an increase to the insurance. The policy was approved.

The 2019-2020 school year has officially come to an end. This year was filled with a lot of student success and we are proud of what everyone accomplished as we ended in distance learning. Congratulations to the graduating seniors of the Class of 2020. Best of luck to each of you!

Cedar Mountain summer meal program

With summer right around the corner, it's time to think about keeping children healthy while school is out.  Cedar Mountain Schools will be providing meals to children starting June 8th through August 28th.  There will be no meals available on July 3rd.  Grab and Go meals can be picked up at the elementary school in Franklin, 231 4th Ave. East. They will be distributing meals at the kitchen door on the west side of the school Monday through Friday - 11:00 to 12:00.

As I type this, most students have completed their school year; however, teachers will continue to work with students who have not completed their assignments through the end of this week. At the primary and intermediate school level, letter grades will not be given. Grades will be given based on whether students completed
