Cougars sweep Mavericks, advance to semifinals

The number two seed Cedar Mountain Cougar volleyball team headed to St. Peter on Tuesday, November 1 for the Section 2A Quarterfinal game against the number three seeded Martin County West Mavericks.

The Cougars had faced and lost to the Mavericks before, earlier in the season in a two-set match during a tournament. This time, they were looking for a very different outcome.

Lady Cougars end season with loss to Clippers

The Cedar Mountain Lady Cougars ended their season with a loss to Cleveland in the Section 2A Semifinal game on Thursday, November 5. GFW Cross Country girls compete at State Meet

The GFW girls’ Cross Country team headed to St. Olaf College on Saturday, November 5 to compete at the State Cross Country Meet.

Earlier this season, the girls earned the top spot in the Conference and the Section for the first time in school history so they were excited for the big event.

The competition included 16 teams and 158 individual runners.

GFW Bowlers compete at New Ulm, Gibbon

The GFW bowling teams headed back to Concordia Lanes in New Ulm on Saturday, October 15.

The Varsity team took on Hutchinson and New Ulm during that day’s competition.

In the first match of the day, the varsity team was successful in beating Hutch with a total pin count of 831 compared to their 694.

Cougars dominate Raiders to advance to Section semifinals

The Cedar Mountain Cougars hosted the Nicollet Raiders in the Section 2A 9-man quarterfinal game on Tuesday, October 25.

The Cougars had earned the third seed, while the Raiders were sixth seed.

The game did not start out well for the Cougars. Their first drive ended abruptly with a fumble, turning the ball over to the Raiders at their own 38.

Cougars’ season ends with loss to Owls in Section semifinal game

The Cedar Mountain Cougars’ football season came to an end on Saturday, October 29, following a disappointing 14-32 loss to the Hancock Owls in the Section 2A semifinal game.

These two teams met at the same point in the season last year, and at that point, the Cougars came away with the victory, but that was not to be this year.

Lady T-Birds end season with playoff loss to Warriors

For the second time in as many weeks, the GFW girls’ varsity volleyball team went head-to-head with the BOLD Warriors on Thursday, October 27 in Olivia.

The first time was their final game of their regular season. The second was their final game of the post-season, and unfortunately, the result was the same – the Warriors came away with the win again.

T-Birds’ season comes to an end with loss to Crusaders

The GFW T-Birds traveled to Mayer on Saturday, October 29 to face the Mayer Lutheran Crusaders in the Section 2A Semifinal game.

These two teams met in the first game of the season, and at that point, the Crusaders delivered a loss to the T-Birds that they had hoped to erase with a win here.

Unfortunately, things did not go GFW’s way in this contest either.
