(Editor’s note) This is the culmination of a story we started in last week’s edition.

Brock Kiecker came back to play with his brother Dana and the Fairfax Cardinals in 1981. While warming up during pregame, Doc Bauman would always ask him, “Need a little Novocain tonight?” Then he restarted playing with the Richfield team in 1990. They played in the Federal League, which was “real baseball”. He was with the Richfield Rockets team for 22 years. 

Sibley County buildings re-open

Sibley County Courthouse and Service Center will again be open to the public for services with restriction starting Monday May 18 with limited hours in some departments as well as limited access to staff.

Renville County services update

Limited Renville County offices will be available as of May 18 for pre-scheduled, in-person appointments. The intent of this measure is to implement prevention and protection measures in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Fairfax Council met for their monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 12 at the Community Center. 

Gibbon Lion’s postpone Fun Night

The Gibbon Lion’s “Fun Night” scheduled for Monday, June 8 has been postponed, due to the Corona Virus Pandemic. This event is held as a night to thank Lion’s members for their service and the community for their support. It is also a fundraiser in helping the Lion’s with community projects and scholarships given to students.

The Lion’s hope to be able to reschedule “Fun Night” in the fall.

As of now, the Gibbon Fun Fest is still on the calendar for July 17-19.

Franklin Council reviews, approves 2019 financial statements

The Franklin City Council met for their regular meeting on May 11, 2020.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance and approval of the agenda and minutes, Sara Beavers of Oberloh & Oberloh, Ltd., presented the city’s 2019 Financial Statements and Financial Analysis. After her presentation, Council approved the Financial Statements and Analysis.

(Editor’s note) Ah, it is spring and young boys everywhere are eager to get out and throw the ball around. They can’t play baseball or watch it because of the virus, but we hope this story will maybe provide that baseball “fix” for them – and for you.

Fairfax Community Market weekly progress update

The installation of the interior flooring will wrap up this week. The new flooring is a commercial grade vinyl which will withstand the anticipate traffic with minimal maintenance needs. 

The interior walls have also been repainted with a color scheme that ties in with the flooring. The new shopping area looks and feels cleaner and brighter.

GFW School Board develops a plan for graduation

The GFW School Board held a special meeting on Wednesday, May 6.  Items on the agenda included how to handle graduation, and a closed session to discuss negotiations for the sale of the old football field in Gibbon.
