Sibley County had a team of 4-H’ers that competed at the State General Livestock Quiz Bowl competition last April and won first place. The team consisted of Connor Johnson, Baleigh Peterson, Caleb Scharpe, Cody Sievert, and Jessica Willegal. Using a buzzer system, they quickly answered questions pertaining to Beef, Goat, Sheep and Swine on nutrition, breeding, diseases, structure and the like.
Jeff and Kerry Haala were recognized as the 2019 Fairfax Volunteers of the Year at the Fairfax Civic and Commerce Association banquet on Saturday evening.
The Haalas have been instrumental in the formation and ongoing upkeep of the Fairfax Depot Museum. Along with others at the Depot, they have helped with building maintenance, organizing music in Depot Park in the summer, and fundraising to keep the museum open and in good repair.

Pastor Charlie Stewart has been presiding over Swedlanda Lutheran Church for the past 33 years; and Sunday, January 26 marked his final service as a pastor before retirement.
The Fairfax Fire Department received a $200 donation recently from the Iron Warriors Central Lakes Chapter out of Atwater, Minnesota. Pictured is Iron Warriors member Leo Schweiss (right) of Fairfax, presenting the donation to Fairfax Fire Chief Joel Grejtak (left). Iron Warriors is a motorcycle club comprised of current and former fire and law enforcement personnel. Each year, the Central Lakes Chapter does a fundraiser memorial motorcycle ride in memory of Chelsey Nielson.
In a special school board meeting held on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at the Primary School in Gibbon, the GFW School Board approved the proposed Statutory Operating Debt (SOD) plan that is intended to get the district back on the road to financial health.
In response to the GFW School Board’s proposal to close the Intermediate School Building, the Fairfax City Council held a special council meeting on Monday, January 27.
