In 2005 the GFW School District implemented the position of Cultural Liaison with Cecilia Zendejas in the new role. As the cultural liaison, Zendejas’ role was to serve as an alliance between families of Latino descent, assisting the school in developing and sustaining a trusting and supportive relationship that would benefit students, families, and the school district.

Once again, the generosity of the people in our area becomes apparent during the holiday season, and all year long.
Two weeks ago, we told you again about the Spirit of the Season program, and our anonymous donor willing to match up to $5,000 in donations. That effectively kicked off the campaign that raises funds for the program for the following year and beyond.

Because of constant support and generous contributions, the Fairfax Fire-Rescue-Ambulance Department was recently able to purchase a new set of extrication equipment. The set of cordless tools includes a cutter, spreader, ram, and some accessories. Earlier this fall the department took part in a demo during a regular fire drill night with representatives from the company on site to teach members about each tool, give them an opportunity to use them, and ask any question. Christmas is just around the corner, which means Santa is extra busy making his list and checking it twice!
To do that, he has to get out and talk to the kids to find out what they are asking for this year. He will be doing just that in our area in the next few days.

The grand opening ceremony for the Raven Precision Agriculture Center was held September 11 on the South Dakota State University campus in Brookings. Franklin native Rosalyn Madsen had the honor of cutting the ceremony ribbon to the new center. Following the ceremony, attendees were invited to take tours of the new $46.1 million facility.

The Fairfax City Council held a regular meeting November 9, 2021.
The meeting began with a public hearing for certifying delinquent utility bills and other assessments. The City will provide the list of 14 customers who have delinquent charges to the Renville County Auditor, who will place assessments onto the customers property.

In 2008, Sharon Fossum, who is a Special Education Teacher at GFW Schools, noticed there were a number of kids who came to school hungry, poorly clothed, and lacking school supplies. She started Spirit of the Season, and that first year bought and wrapped presents for 15 kids and their families and supplied them with a traditional Christmas meal.

Cedar Heart Homes, Inc. recently began a building project in Franklin that, upon completion, will result in an assisted living facility that will contain three one-bedroom apartments and eight care suites.
The $1.72 million project will be built on the former site of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church which is located at 551 Second Avenue East in Franklin near the ball field.

The Cedar Mountain School Board held a regular meeting November 15, 2021, in the Morgan High School media room.
Once the agenda and October 2021 bills were approved the board accepted donations from Cougar Pride Action Committee (CPAC), Blomeke Construction, Kerkhoff Plumbing and Heating, AgQuest, and Land O’ Lakes.
