Friday, February 4 was a big day for the GFW Pioneer Express FFA members. Three students applied for their state degree, completed in proficiency areas, and were being considered for the Region Star Farmer award and Region Officer Candidate.
When the day was done, the results were impressive!

Fairfax’s Sweet Spot Bake Shop owner, Tina Castillo is in the process of expanding her small-town bakery. Like most small business owners, she’s quick to give credit to the people and programs that are helping her.
Castillo purchased the business in 2016 and has made a name for herself with whimsical and delicious cakes, and donuts, cupcakes and cookies.

There’s a small log cabin located in Mack Lake County Park in Renville County. The park sits on the south side of County Road 5, west of Fort Ridgely, and features camping sites and hiking trails, along with a boat ramp on the river, and this log cabin.

The GFW School Board met for their regular meeting on Tuesday, January 18.
To start the meeting, the Board heard from several students and staff members regarding the tours of other schools they attended in December, as well as the Big Ideas simulations that the students had an opportunity to try out earlier this month.

The 40th Annual Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Club Fishing Derby is scheduled for Sunday, February 6 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm.
The day will be filled with fun, fish and lots of prizes, including a chance to win the grand prize – a 2022 Ice Castle fish house and a 2022 Can Am Outlander ATV!

The GFW Robotics team, called GFW Advance, Number 17736, is in the midst of their competition season. This year’s team is made up of fourth, fifth and sixth graders that have never been on a lego team before this year.
