The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 205 of Fairfax will be sponsoring a Poppy Poster contest again this year. This will be open to ALL 5th graders living in the GFW school district. Included will be students at GFW Public, Prairie Lutheran School, home schooled and those transported to other schools but living in the GFW school district.

The Gibbon City Council met for their regular meeting on Tuesday, March 2.
A hearing was held regarding Ordinance 162 and a potential increase in the number of liquor licenses allowed in the city. There were no comments from those in attendance and the hearing was closed. Later in the meeting, the changes to the ordinance were approved. The Council is not required to issue all licenses available.

In 2021 the Renville County Historical Society plans on doing a special wedding exhibit. If you or anyone in your family were married in Renville County please submit a photograph, a copy of the wedding invitation, and a clipping of the wedding announcement from the newspaper with the bride and groom information including the date and location of the marriage.

It’s hard to believe, but time is moving quickly, and the end of the school year will be here before you know it. We are very proud of what our dedicated staff, hardworking students, and passionate parents have been able to accomplish this year while facing many challenges. We are now looking forward to the next school year and finding efficiencies that will not only help our budget but expand opportunities for students.

Five young ladies from Gibbon will go through the arduous judging and selection process to becoming the next Gibbon Royalty. The two selected will represent Gibbon across the region and the state as they attend various events across the region over the course of the next year.
The 2021 Gibbon Royalty Coronation will be held Saturday, March 6 at 7:00 p.m. Due to COVID precautions, the event will be private this year.

The Minnesota River south of Franklin was the place to be last week for local sportsmen and in general anyone tired of being cooped up for the winter. With the warmer weather approaching, time is running short for the sport. March 1 marked the DNR’s deadline for removing ice houses from area lakes and other inland bodies of water in this part of the state. (Staff photo by Lori Kopischke)

As if a global pandemic wasn’t enough, now we are dealing with some very strange weather all across the country.
If that’s all there was to it, we’d deal with it and move on. The frigid temps we’ve had the last 10 or 15 days haven’t been fun, but we are hearty Minnesotans so we deal with it. But the weather has had a ripple effect on things we might not expect.
