Meet the new Mayors - Corey Gruendemann, City of Franklin

Corey Gruendemann, new Mayor of Franklin, grew up in Morgan. He and his family moved to Franklin and they have been there for 13 years. He and his wife Joy have been married for 20 years, and they have three kids – Carole, 18, Samantha, 13, and Corey Jr, 10. 

Corey works at Jackpot Junction Casino and Hotel as a Security Officer and is involved in many different organizations including the Franklin Lions Club, Catfish Committee, St. Luke's Lutheran Church & Franklin Ambulance Service.

Meet the new Mayors - Jerry Huiras, City of Morgan

Jerry Huiras, the new Mayor of Morgan, was born and raised a mile north of Leavenworth on a farm with ten brothers and sisters. He has been married for 52 years to his wife Judy, and they have three grown children. For the past 40 years, Huiras has been a private contractor working in the salvage business for railroads. He also spent time in the US Marine Corps and was a combat vet in Viet Nam.

Huiras decided to run for Mayor because he felt it was the best way to give back to his community.

Meet the new Mayors - Steve Klukas, City of Gibbon

Steve Klukas, the new Mayor of Gibbon, grew up on a farm between Gibbon and Winthrop.  He attended Winthrop High School and then went to technical college in Mankato. He came to Gibbon to work for Lloyd Refrigeration, which eventually became Northern Insulation. He worked there for 46 years before he retired in 2016. Klukas also spent 32 years on the Gibbon Fire Department, serving 19 of those years as Fire Chief. He was also an EMT on the Rescue Squad.

GFW School Board holds organizational meeting

The GFW School Board met for the first time in the new year to elect officers, designate official positions and set committee assignments.

The meeting was called to order by acting chair Mike Kuehn, and the new board members, Casey Prochniak, Drew Schmidt, and Dan Merkel were all on hand to be sworn in. Re-elected board member Jason Haas took his Oath of Office as well.

Gibbon Council welcomes new mayor, council members

The first Gibbon City Council meeting of 2021 was called to order on January 6 by outgoing Mayor Jeff Gatton. 

The meeting began with the swearing in of new Council - Steve Klukas as Mayor and Greg Hartmann and April Firle as council members. 

Morgan City Council holds first meeting of new year

The Morgan City Council met for their January meeting on Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

The agenda was approved, and the Oath of Office was administered to new mayor, Jerry Huiras, and new council members Corey Reding and Dennis Kerkhoff.

Next the group reviewed Mayoral Appointments for positions and committee assignments.

Cedar Mountain schools to move to in-person learning

During a special meeting of the Cedar Mountain School Board held Tuesday, January 5, the group approved a plan to bring all students to school for in-person learning for the first time this year.

Pick-up day for Spirit of the Season a success

Sharon Fossum, and the Spirit of the Season program held their ‘pick-up day’ just before Christmas. Despite the current pandemic, and a blizzard, the day was a huge success!

Fossum, along with several volunteers, worked hard to get everything ready in the days leading up to pick-up day. Gifts were wrapped, groceries were purchased, and boxes were assembled to make the process easy and efficient.

LeAnn Frank to retire after 40 years at Frandsen Bank & Trust

LeAnn Frank recently announced that she will retire after four decades with Frandsen Bank & Trust in Fairfax. Her last day at the bank will be Friday, January 8.

Fairfax Medical Clinic staff receives COVID vaccination

The staff at the Fairfax Medical Clinic received their first round of the Pfizer COVID vaccine on December 29 at the Olivia Hospital.
