How many of us carry a face mask with us all the time? It’s not a habit yet but putting on a mask or carrying one with me is becoming part of my morning routine. I also have one in each vehicle and several in my office. I don’t always wear it when I am in public, but I am getting better at it. Recently, I had a medical appointment, and there, everyone wears one all the time. If you lower your mask or take it off, you are asked to put it on covering your nose and mouth.

For most people, the idea of doing taxes is a frustrating and arduous task, definitely not something they look forward to. For Amy Acree, owner of AG Tax in Fairfax, however, it’s a different story.
Amy grew up near Sleepy Eye with her parents and four siblings. She moved to New Ulm when she got married, and raised her two sons, Matt and Mark.

Students and staff at Cedar Mountain and GFW Schools headed back to school last week for the first time since last March, when the pandemic began, and everyone was forced to shift to distance learning. So far, both schools are holding in-person classes, with a few adjustments made to reduce contact among students. Masks are required, and extra cleaning is being done to prevent the spread of the virus.

The Gibbon City Council met for their regular meeting on September 2.
The first item under Old Business was the 2019 Street Project. Reseeding of the boulevards is scheduled for September 4. There were a few cracks found in the cement curbs, but these and any other new cracks will be covered by a two year warranty.

The Morgan City Council met for their regular meeting on September 2, 2020 at City Hall.
Following the approval of the agenda and last month’s minutes, Bill Helget of Bolton & Menk provided an update on the construction project. He indicated that the concrete work, final paving, seal coating and striping has been completed. Turf restoration has been placed. Overall things came together well.

In addition to the Renville County grants for businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Fairfax will also have funds available soon that local businesses will be able to apply for.
According to City Administrator Nicholas Johnson, the HRA/EDA is currently working to finalize the details of the program. He expects it to be open to applications mid-September.

The Morgan Lions are doing their part by participating in a regional project to help young children enduring the diagnosis of cancer.

Save a life at the blood drive on Thursday, September 10 from 1-7 p.m. at the Gibbon Community Center. Due to Covid-19, only appointments will be accepted. There will be no walk-ins taken. You may call Sue at 507-381-3685 at any time during the day of the drive to see if there are any appointments open.

A Special Meeting of the Franklin City Council was held on Monday, August 24, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. at the Franklin Community Center to allow for social distancing.
The purpose of the special meeting was to complete unfinished business.
