When we hear the phrase “walk in the park”, words like ‘easy’, ‘relaxing’ or even in some cases ‘romantic’ come to mind. If you think about it, the Renville County Walk in the Park is probably very easy and relaxing, compared to the journeys of those the event is intended to help. But it’s also extremely important.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has been receiving reports of residents receiving unsolicited packages of seeds appearing to come from China. Officials in other states, including Louisiana, Utah, Virginia, and Washington, have reported similar situations. Any Minnesotan receiving a package of seeds they did not order should not plant the seeds and contact the MDA.

Tuesday, August 11, 2020 is Primary Election Day. For most of our readers, there isn’t much to vote on. Morgan voters in Redwood County have only to select whether they will vote Republican, DFL, the Legal Marijuana Now or the Grassroots-Legalize Cannabis party.

The Tim and Janet Nachreiner family of Fairfax has been named Renville County’s “2020 Farm Family of the Year” by the University of Minnesota. In 1987, Tim and Janet Nachreiner purchased and started operating the Nachreiner Dairy farm. This purchase of Tim’s childhood family farm started a new generation of dairy farmers with the help of their four children. During the first 10 years, the Nachreiners grew their herd to milk 80 cows in a 20-cow stanchion barn.

The GFW School Board me on Monday, July 20, for their regular meeting. In addition to members of the board and school administrators, there were approximately 25-30 members of the public present.
After the agenda was approved, Board Chair Phil Klenk thanked everyone for coming and allowed the two members of the public that had indicated they wanted to do so, to speak.

The regular monthly meeting of the Cedar Mountain School Board was held on July 20, 2020 in the auditorium at the Morgan school.
The Board approved the agenda and donations received, including $300 from the Cedar Mountain Booster Club to the Athletic Department and $3,000 from the City of Franklin to Community Education for Summer Rec.

The Fairfax EDA is pleased to announce that they will be hosting several informational meetings with GFW Superintendent Jeff Horton that will focus on the upcoming operating referendum.
The meetings are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and then again from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Fairfax Community Center.
