Addressing the Daycare Shortage in Fairfax

Beginning in November 2020, a Renville County Childcare Taskforce team along with First Children’s Finance, started the process of the Rural Child Care Innovation Program (RCCIP). The goal of the RCCIP was to address the shortage of childcare in Renville County.

GFW adds 25 new staff for the 2021-22 school year

There are many new staff joining the ranks of GFW staff this year.

Our first introduction is of Brittany Schroeder who is one of the new Social Emotion Learning Introventionist.

Schroeder is originally from St. Cloud and earned a degree in Child and Adolescent Psychology and is also working towards a master’s degree.

Return to School Safety plans announced at Cedar Mountain School District

With the first day of school about two weeks away, local school districts are releasing their reopening plans that reveal guidelines around COVID-19.

The Minnesota Department of Education requires that all schools develop a plan for in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year.

Franklin Council continues to improve City buildings/property, and tackle blight properties

The Franklin City Council held a regular meeting on August 9 at the Franklin City Hall.

After the agenda was approved bills were presented in the amount of $34,753.08. Cash receipts for July were $166,623.79.

Cedar Mountain School faculty excited and prepared for the return of school September 7

The Cedar Mountain School Board met for their regular meeting on August 16.

Beginning the meeting, the Board acknowledged a $1,000 donation from Renville Sibley Cooperative Power Association for the Imagination Library.

Tri-County area continues to see COVID-19 cases

Our local area has seen an increase in COVID-19 cases over the past few weeks. Cases continue to rise, and the virus continues to change, resulting in more concerning variants like Delta.

The most recent data released by the Renville County Public Health on August 19 reported 1,883 cases in Renville County for the month of August 2021. 

Coloring Gibbon Purple - Team Gibbon hosts Walk to End Alzheimers

Team Gibbon hosted their Walk to End Alzheimer’s fundraiser on August 20 in Gibbon. Despite a much-needed rain storm, Team Gibbon participants wore purple, gathered with family and friends, and walked the streets of town to raise funds to end Alzheimer’s. In addition to the walk, a raffle for great prizes was held at D’s Pit Stop following the walk. (Submitted photo)

Ride 2 Remember passes through Morgan

Motorcyclists from across the State met in Granite Falls on Saturday, August 14 for the annual Ride to Remember (formerly the KMS ride). The ride remembers and honors military heroes that have lost their lives in service to the United States of America.
