The Gibbon Funfest committee, along with the Gibbon EDA and other local organizations have been busy planning the annual Funfest celebration, which is scheduled for Thursday, July 16 through Sunday, July 19. And while there are certain events that remain ‘up in the air’, because of the uncertainty of State restrictions and such, the weekend is packed full of fun stuff for all ages!

The GFW royalty worked together to help pack meals on Tuesday, June 30 at the Food for Kidz location in Stewart. They packed a total of 1600 meals. That evening, the Fairfax Royalty hosted their annual Princesses in Pajamas Party event, where an even larger local royalty group tied blankets to donate to the NUMAS HAUS, a women & children’s shelter in New Ulm.

On June 26, 2020 at 8:42 pm the Renville County Sheriff’s Office received an automated call reporting a crash on County Road 39 east of County Road 16, three miles south of Fairfax in Camp Township. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene.
Responders on scene located a 2017 Ford F150 on its side in the drainage ditch on the south side of the road. The vehicle was unoccupied.

At a special meeting of the GFW School Board held Wednesday, June 24, new Superintendent Jeff Horton presented his proposal for filling the recently vacated Jr./Sr. High School Principal position.
Horton cited the needs of the students and the District’s Statutory Operating Debt as items that were considered as he and current Superintendent Lonnie Siefert discussed the best options for filling the position.

Father Bruno, of All Saints Area Parish, took a ride to the heavens of a different sort last week. Work is being conducted at St. Andrews Church in Fairfax, some of which requires the boom/lift pictured above. Father Bruno took the opportunity to experience what it was like to see the City of Fairfax from above and went for a ride.

After 112 years of providing education in the Diocese of New Ulm, St. Michael Catholic School in Morgan has closed its doors for good. Amid declining enrollment and budgetary concerns, the school will not be in operation moving forward into the next academic school year.
