Veterans Day, which is held on the anniversary of the end of World War I, is a day to honor all US veterans and victims of all wars. Locally, both Cedar Mountain and GFW Schools will be hosting Veterans Day programs on Thursday, November 11 and the community is invited to attend.
At Cedar Mountain High School in Morgan the program will begin at 9 am in the school’s gymnasium. The public is invited to attend.

Happy Fall! It is always amazing how fast the start of the year goes. We have had many exciting and wonderful experiences happen here since the start of school. Our students are working hard and adjusting to the rigors of school life once again.

Fall has been an exciting time at the elementary school with many activities for the students to be involved in. During homecoming different dress up days were planned for each day, and students enjoyed a homecoming pep fest. The high school pep band came over and played several selections including the school song. Representatives from each fall sport were part of the group as well as the homecoming king and queen, the court, and the T-Bird.

The new squad car for the Fairfax Police Department arrived last week. The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe was purchased for $33,597.88, with an additional $5,952.74 to outfit the vehicle for police use. The Fairfax City Council authorized the purchase of a new squad car in December 2019. There are now two squad vehicles in the police department and on average the squad car is driven around 15,000 miles per year. (Staff photo by Paul Zaid)

Merel Timmer, a 17-year-old from Kudelstaart, Netherlands arrived in the United States August 19. She will be spending a year experiencing a new culture, visiting the local area, and immersing herself into the “typical” senior year experience of an American high school student.
When asked why Timmer chose to study abroad in the U.S. for an entire school year her reply was because of her love of the “American Dream.”

An engraved rock was recently placed at Peichel’s Hill near Fairfax to honor owner Jerry Peichel (pictured), who sees himself as “God’s Caretaker” for the property that so many people have enjoyed throughout the years. Peichel’s Hill has been a gathering place for thousands of people throughout the years, from church groups to boy scouts, and the site of many events, including campouts, weddings, anniversaries, celebrations and memorial services.

Ray Schmidt, a former resident and softball coach in Morgan, will be inducted posthumously into the Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame at a banquet on Saturday, October 30 at Westwood Cove Golf Club in Albert Lea.

The Cedar Mountain School Board met for their regular meeting on Monday, October 18 in Franklin.
At the beginning of the meeting the board acknowledged two donations in the amount of $200.00 each. One donation for Back the Pack program another to the Imagination Library from St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.

The GFW School Board held their regular meeting on October 18.
The meeting began with recognition of the transportation team. Superintendent Jeff Horton said many school districts have had trouble with transportation needs over the past year and GFW is no different. However, the transportation team has stepped up to provide services beyond the norm during the pandemic and deserves to be recognized.
