We’ve been dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic for more than two years now. It has become the ‘new normal’ and will likely continue to reside in the back of our minds, much like the various strains of influenza and other viruses do.

It’s hard for most of us to imagine doing any one thing for 60 years. But for Myron Marquardt, longevity in everything he does seems to be the norm. Most recently, he was recognized by the Fairfax American Legion Post 205 for 60 years of Continuous Membership in the group.

Although the 2020 census revealed some population changes in Sibley County, they were not great enough to require redistricting of the county’s five Commissioner Districts. State law requires redistricting if the population in any district varies more than 10 percent from the average of all districts in a county. The total population went from 15,118 a decade ago, to 14,836 in 2020; however district populations stayed within 10 percent of the five districts’ average of 2,967.

Well, here’s an idea that will entertain all your family members from 2 to 102 - the Fairfax United Methodist Church is hosting a program called ‘Doers of the Word’ at the church on Sunday, March 20 at 1:30 pm.

The Gibbon Fire Department held their annual Chicken Dinner on Sunday, March 13 at the fire barn in Gibbon. The event was strictly drive-thru, and people were lined up for blocks to get their meals. The group started serving at 11:00 am and by 2:00 pm, they were out of chicken and had served 1,143 meals. The funds raised at the event will be used to update the equipment used by the department.
