Fairfax American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Day is Friday, May 14

The Fairfax American Legion Auxiliary will hold their annual Poppy Day on Friday, May 14. Auxiliary members will have poppies in various businesses in Fairfax.

The group also hosted their annual Poppy Poster Contest earlier this year. All 5th graders were asked to participate. Over 55 posters were completed and the top six were chosen. It was a hard job as the posters were very well done.

Renville County HRA/EDA announces Childcare Capacity Building Forgivable Loan program

The Renville County Housing and Redevelopment Authority /Economic Development Authority (HRA/EDA) has created a new forgivable loan program to assist with the creation of new and the expansion of existing childcare providers within Renville County.

Forgivable loans of up to $5,000 are available for in home childcare providers, and up to $10,000 for childcare centers. Eligible applicants include new home childcare providers and centers and those expanding capacity.

Governor Walz announces timeline to end state COVID-19 restrictions

Capacity restrictions to end on May 28, masking requirement to end by July 1

Governor Tim Walz recently announced a three-step timeline to end nearly all state COVID-19 restrictions by May 28, and end the statewide masking requirement once 70 percent of Minnesotans age 16 years and older get their vaccine, or by July 1.

A Night Under the Stars - GFW Prom 2021

GFW students celebrated their 2021 Prom ‘A Night Under the Stars’ on Saturday, May 1. The attendees gathered for a Grand March in Winthrop, then headed to Fairfax for a dance at Squirrels, and then returned to Winthrop for the After-Prom Party. Pictured are just a few of the attendees as they were preparing to line up for Grand March.  

Truck accident near Morgan shuts down Highway 67

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Highway 67 near Morgan was closed on Friday, April 23 near the intersection with Redwood County Road 13 due to an accident involving two semi-trucks.

The first truck, a 2005 Freightliner, driven by 75- year-old Robert Schroepfer of Sleepy Eye, was northbound on Co. Rd. 13. He came to a stop and then proceeded into the intersection where he struck a 2001 International driving by 55-year-old Ricky Helget of St. James.

Fairfax Royalty hosts Princesses in Pajamas event

The Fairfax Royalty program hosted their sixth annual Princesses in Pajamas event on Saturday, April 17. The royalty court, ambassadors, and some of the upcoming candidates participate in three service projects along with members of other local area royalty programs.
