Fairfax's Memorial Park gets a face lift

Memorial Park in Fairfax has been a busy place recently! Changes have been made to the playground area and sidewalks have been added to make the shelters more accessible. Additional work is being done inside the grandstand, including improvements to the restrooms and concession stand. Those projects will be done in time for next spring’s season opener. 

Frandsen Bank's Community Impact Project a success

Frandsen Bank asked, and once again, the community of Fairfax answered. The Fairfax branch, through their Community Impact project, raised approximately $1,900 in cash and personal protective equipment donations for GFW and PLS schools to protect students from the COVID-19 virus.

Cougars, T-Birds go head-to-head on the volleyball court

The Cedar Mountain Cougar volleyball team traveled to Winthrop on Saturday, October 10 for their first match of the season against the GFW T-Birds on their home court.

The Cougars were first on the board in set one, taking a 2-0 lead early on. But the T-Birds came back to take a 12-6 lead, and eventually won the first set, with a score of 25-17.

Nature's Splendor captured in Morgan

Morgan resident and former Morgan Messenger publisher Walt Olson captured Nature’s Splendor beautifully last week when he took this photo in the park in Morgan.  The combination of oranges, reds, yellows and greens, backed by the blue sky really shows of Mother Nature’s pallet of colors.

A two-year labor of love

Harvey Meyer, 75, of Gaylord recently completed a wooden model of his church, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. It took four people to move the approximately 250 lb. creation into the church entry earlier this month.

Meyer said several members of the congregation asked him if he could build a model of the church. A Gaylord resident for 34 years, Meyer has been a member of Immanuel for about 20 years. 

Gibbon Fire & Rescue creates safety videos for Fire Prevention Week

It’s Fire Prevention Week this week (October 4-10, 2020) and normally during this week, the Gibbon Fire Department would be making trips to GFW Elementary School in Gibbon to chat with students about fire safety, and fire prevention.

Unfortunately, the state of things as they are currently, that wasn’t in the cards this year. But the department didn’t let that stop them from getting their message to the kids.
