Fairfax Council approves bid for Second Street project

The Fairfax City Council met for their regular meeting on Tuesday, April 12.

After the Pledge of Allegiance, and the Consent Agenda, the Council moved on to New Business.

GFW Robotics Team recognized

The GFW First Lego League Explore Team received medals for their recent efforts in a ‘virtual’ competition.

This team, which is comprised of six- to 10-year old students, met regularly from January through the end of March on Monday nights from 6 to 7:30 pm in the GFW Elementary School library. This was the first time on a team for most of the members.

Gibbon's new playground is ready for action

After a long wait, the City of Gibbon opened their new playground in the city park on Monday, March 28. Due to a fire at the manufacturer’s warehouse, the delivery of the playground equipment was delayed. It was originally supposed to be installed last summer, but the delays pushed delivery and installation into the winter months.

Leavenworth Baseball Assn makes donation to Morgan Fire Department

The Cedar Mountain drama department presents WCKY this weekend

Cedar Mountain drama is performing WCKY by Flip Kobler and Cindy Marcus for their spring play. This play is a whodunit melodrama set in 1939. The play will be performed in the Morgan Auditorium Friday, April 8, and Saturday, April 9 at 7. Tickets will be sold at the door (adults $6 and students $4). 

Cedar Mountain updates State of the District Report

The Cedar Mountain School Board met for their monthly meeting on March 21 at the Morgan site.

Following the approval of the Consent Agenda, which included a $500 donation to the girls’ basketball student activity account and $150 from CPAC to the SADD Chapter, the board moved on to the Presentation of the Senior Class. 

Franklin Council votes to dissolve Franklin Ambulance Service

The Franklin City Council met for their March meeting on Monday, March 14.

After the Pledge of Allegiance and the approval of minutes and the Consent Agenda were complete, Todd Sherman addressed the council about a piece of city property at 242 2nd Ave East that is currently under an agreement for purchase. Sherman expressed interest in the property if the current arrangement doesn’t work out.

Franklin Ambulance Service to become a Medical Response Unit

At the most recent meeting on Monday, March 14, the Franklin City Council made the decision to dissolve the Franklin Ambulance Service and create a Medical Response Unit (or ‘MRU’) in its place.

This decision has been coming for a long time. The Franklin Ambulance Service has had problems finding enough people to fill their shifts for several years.

Springtime fun at the Morgan Library

The week of April 3rd through the 9th is National Library Week, which, this year, means lots of fun at the Morgan Library!

The Library Staff will be hosting a scavenger hunt all week. Get a list of books to find and explore the shelves. You never know what’s hiding there! There are two hunts – one geared toward younger children, and the other for any age. Anyone who participates will be entered into a drawing for a prize to be given away at the end of the week.

Signs of Spring?

Though the air still holds a chill, there are signs of spring’s approach. The Minnesota River, south of Fairfax, is no longer solid ice. This photo, taken on Friday, March 25, just off of Highway 4 south of Fairfax shows ice chunks flowing downstream. Reports of robins and some early spring flowers have also been received. But, while the snow is mostly gone now, Mother Nature has been known to be fickle. Weather reports indicate cold and snow in parts of Minnesota later this week.
